The SWARM OF THE MONARCH BUTTERFLIES

The Swarm of the Monarch Butterflies

by Vivien Marie Lopez (c) 2012

(Author’s note: This was born when my dreams last night self-explained that the ghosts that haunt us depend on how frightening or evil we choose them to be.

We perceive others based on the way we perceive ourselves.)

Verse 1

This rush for interpretation

This interest in inspiration

This attraction for infection –

They start in your lungs when you breathe

Until it comes at your tongue & will learn to speak

Against your careful & sincere alibis

In favor of the lust for attention heists

You think you know everything so well

From limbs to curves to the spell of swells

While you sleep with pure delusions,

& only dreams will confess misconceptions.

We make our own monsters,

The worst yet of the worst ever.

Verse 2

These arms of self preservation

This harm of self contemplation

This attraction for infection –

They go home to your locus of control

Until you call on dolls to drive away skeletons

Against your careful & sincere alibis

In favor of the lust for attention heists

You think you know everything so well

From limbs to curves to the spell of swells

While you sleep with pure delusions,

& only dreams will confess misconceptions.

We make our own monsters,

The worst yet of the worst ever.

I’m not cut for your defense mechanisms

I’m not cut for your defense mechanisms

I’m not cut for your defense mechanisms

I’m all cut for the demons you see in me that’s all in your head –
