Esse Quam Videri: A Sonnet for Evolution

Will you read the bible and myth of mankind again
Without your condescending glasses and whiskey
Will you fare well in your godforsaken nakedness
Genetically equipped for a world without the electrical grid (and the cacophony of society)

Will you have the courage to conquer your skull and the realm of the gods
Will you believe in lost truths of time and aliens and magick
Before the Circle of Souls closes at the strike of dawn
For love alone can redeem what evolution cannot save us from (ourselves)

Aren’t we a mere mobius strip of promise and chance and circumstance
Holding what we think we came into and saw and conquered
Staring at the sun until our cataracts melt a little too late
Waiting for soldiers and flashlights and angels and the end of our age

As we plunge in trance into the well of a demise earned in vitro –
But perhaps, madness is the height of enlightenment in itself.

Go. Moan. Scream. Tell me if you like it. Make some noise.
