The dragon came round again
It told me
(in a fog of teeth)
It’s time I breathe fire
Instead of just making circles
Out of the whisper of my Marlboro reds

For candles are for the circus of dreams
But my bones form their matchsticks
And my lungs bear
The gift of Prometheus.

“Horoscopes mean bullshit,”
The centaur behind
Said with a wink and a horse’s grin
“But myths and legends may not be.”

And they both turned to leave
With hooves and wings
And arrows and fire –

I flipped a cigarette
And blew my candle.

I’ll see them again.

Go. Moan. Scream. Tell me if you like it. Make some noise.
